Hydrangea and Gardenia

We’re relatively new to sugar flowers.  And by relatively, we mean very.  One sugar flower artist that inspires us is Jacqueline Butler of Petalsweet.  Her flowers are gorgeous and the fact that she is willing to share her knowledge with so many aspiring sugar flower makers is really great!  You can pay for a tutorial on Craftsy, check our her blog for some tutorials, or (if you are fortunate and somewhat affluent enough) you can take a class from her in person!

We have chosen the free tutorial route on her blog.  :)  This is our very first try at hydrangeas and gardenias.

Our first hydrangea ever!

What you don’t see pictured is the other 8 or so hydrangea that didn’t quite make it. :(  Hopefully we’ll get enough practice to eventually make a full bunch of hydrangea flowers just like how they naturally grow!

From the Presses to Your Kitchen

I love Rifle Paper Co.  I absolutely love Anna Bond and her artistry in the beautiful brand that she has created.  When February came around and Cathy and I were thinking of something romantic to make, we immediately thought of the beautiful delicate flowers Anna creates in her stationary.

One of my most favorite prints is the floral heart print, so we thought, “Why not put it on a cake?!”

Well, I’m happy to say that we did just that.

This has romance written all over it. :)

We were so proud of this one!  We shared it with Rifle Paper Co. on their Facebook wall, and about a month or so later, we got a “like” from them on the photo!!  It sounds like such a minor thing to celebrate, but the fact that they saw it and clicked the “like” button made me squeal with joy!

New Blog!

Hey there, Petal and Posie fans!  We have finally started a blog to share a little more info about our recent (and past) sweet treats!

With one of us being a mom and the other working full time, we’ve found that finding time to bake and create has to be intentional. In order to challenge ourselves and MAKE ourselves relax and bake, we made a New Year’s resolution at the start of the year.  Each month, we would either design a cake, hone a sugar skill, or try out a new recipe to further stretch ourselves.  Although many New Year’s resolutions don’t make it past 1 or 2 months, we are proud to say that we have kept up with it!

Here was our first cake for the year – the January cake!

Here is our first cake from the year. This is inspired by a mod pattern we saw on a fabric website!

We absolutely love making cakes inspired by fabric and fabric designs!
